NY DR. Visit

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Well I went to NYC to meet with the transplant team. I had a series of tests while I was there. I had a breathing test, a bike test, blood work, etc the usual. I meet with the surgeon and the physicist. As well as my regular Dr. I also meet with the Physical therapist and took a six minute walk test. I walked almost 2000 feet in six minutes. They would like us above 800 feet. 800 feet is the least you can be at. The Dr said that he could see a change for the worse but still too healthy. He said that we’d see what happens this year. This could be the year is how he put it. We go back to s

Well I went to see Dr. Z today. He was going to admit me back into the hospital. I was outside doing things that shouldn’t have been. I was shoveling and snow blowing and was coughing up blood. So when I went to see him, he asked what I was doing to cause this and I told him. I’m not allowed to do any thing like that. He didn’t admit me because there were no beds available. So he put me on oral antibiotics for two weeks. My lung function has dropped from 38% to 30% in less then a month. So he said that when I need antibiotics again that I’ll have to have them by IV. Well I’m back at Club Med. I was feeling crappy. My chest felt heavy, it hurt to take a deep breath. So I called the doc and he asked if I thought I should be admitted. I told him that I thought it was time. He called ahead and booked my room. I came in on the 24th. I will probably be here for 2 weeks. I will have the usual course of IV’s, walking on the treadmill, chest PT. I’m not sure how this will affect my status on the transplant list. I will find out more when we go back to NYC in March. I will keep you posted.

Well I was back to NYC to see the team. They were real concerned that I couldn’t maintain a lung function, and that I was on O2 with activity. They have tried all the oral antibiotics that they can and that none seem to work anymore. Next time I will need IV’s. He wants to call my Dr. here in Maine to talk to him. He wants to discuss when the right time to list me is. After they talk then they will makeup there minds. I think if my condition doesn’t change between now and March that they may change my status from inactive to active. Then I will go on to the active list to wai
